Dartmoor is my go to place to reset, recoup and if I’m lucky, asked to help fire the best ceramic wood-fired kilns in the UK. Usually I’ll attend the Barn Pottery firing courses, bringing my own pots. But for the last few years thats not been possible, so I’ve happily volunteered to help. Just being around the kilns and all the wonderful potters that come from near and far, is so special. I help feed the hungary participants their lunches, so another of my happy places.
I don’t take time off work lightly, as especially as I’m currently running behind at my own workbench, but i think we still need to do things we love.. and just as my late uncle Clive says, do more things that make us smile.
So here’s to a special week of glazing, loading & firing pots.. some great kiln camaraderie & yes… let Dartmoor do its magic.
